Lisa is an amazing asset to our team. She works tirelessly in her paraprofessional role to support her 1 to 1 student and practices gradual release to help them gain independence. Lisa goes above and beyond every day, extending her support to the rest of the classroom. According to the teachers she works with, it often seems like Lisa is a co-teacher rather than support staff in the classroom! She naturally knows when to jump in to assist with academics and flexibly redirects unexpected behaviors. Lisa values her own learning. She strives to be at her best and share any learning that she has had with her teammates; she always has thoughtful ideas to contribute when situations arise. She is amazing at building positive rapport with each and every student, and she is caring and compassionate when dealing with all students as well. She has a way of putting students and staff at ease when working with her. Our whole class (really our whole school) is a better place with Miss Lisa in it!

The Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Kappa Gama - an international teaching society - presented Mr. Miller with their Friend of Education Award. The award was presented to Mr. Miller because of his strong support of all the Pickford teachers and especially the Pickford students. Mr. Miller quietly supports all of our students, greets them faithfully, is willing to have students help him with tasks and is an outstanding supporter to all of the staff and students. Students showered Mr. Miller with cards and posters showing their appreciation. 💜💜

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10, 2024. The Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE) Office of Educator Excellence (OEE) wishes to celebrate teachers across Michigan for the entire month of May. MDE invites parents to submit 15-30 second videos of their students recognizing and thanking a specific teacher for their impact. Nothing fancy is required—cell phones can capture the videos. Please follow the directions on the flyer. Videos and parental consent may be submitted via the Teacher Appreciation Video Project Google Form. Videos are currently being accepted until Friday, April 19, 2024. Submitted videos may be posted on the Teacher Appreciation Month webpage and the MDE’s YouTube channel. The Office of Educator Excellence Facebook (@MIeducator) and X (formerly Twitter) social media pages will be promoting the videos throughout the month of May. If your child has great things to say about a teacher, don’t hesitate—use the instructions found on our website to submit a video today!
